Ultrasonic Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) is an advanced ultrasonic technique and specially used for near to actual defect sizing. TOFD utilizes two probes, one on each side of weld seam and gives radio frequency wave foam for ultrasonic signals along with grey scale B-scan presentation. TOFD inspection can be used along with PAUT setup as a flaw detection and sizing tool.

This is much faster inspection technique as compared to conventional ultrasonic flaw detection and also gives a permanent record of the scan data in soft form.

TOFD finds its application in construction, manufacturing and inservice plants include inspection of welds, piping systems, pressure vessels, storage tanks and much more.
